In any case their lack of cohesion after their loss of the Lucifer suggests a structure to their command, be it a social structure or like hive animals. You would expect intelligent beings or unthinking beasts alike to scatter - but they stayed. While obviously defeated and disorganised they stayed and fought. This doesn't answer the behaviour of the remnant fleet after the defeat of the Lucifer. Had we not been at war, or been so quick to form an alliance, no doubt we would have all suffered the same fate as Vasuda Prime. It was not the Shivan's aim to bring us together, but a fortunate consequence. They were drawn to our war disturbing subspace like piranhas to the smell of blood. It seems indistinguishable from the behaviour of an unintelligent animalistic apex predator seeking only to preserve dominance through instinct. Is this their objective? To protect the universe? In a sense we do owe them many debts, for saving us from the Shivans and also for providing a common enemy so that we could focus on our similarities with our Vasudan allies.īut I'm unconvinced. It was therefore postulated that the Shivan's are the great preserver, the immune response of the universe to violations of peace. It's undoubtedly true that we were saved from the viciousness of the Ancients by the Shivans. By their own admission the Ancients were a terrible war warmongering race (not to dissimilar to us during our shameful war with the Vasudans I will pointedly note!). The first hypothesis is from soon after the Great War when we learned that the Ancients were wiped out by the very same Shivans. It's not even sure if the have the intelligence to formulate an objective.
